Roots Magic: This program has several different versions. You can get the free version, but you are able to do more with the versions that you pay for. This program, when downloaded to your computer, allows you to interface with other websites (such as Family Tree) to save your pedigree chart onto your computer. It also allows you to make notes or changes and keep track of information. To go to the Roots Magic website, please click here.
Family Tree Maker: Run by Ancestry.Com, this has several programs you can buy and install on your computer. You can also upload and link your information from this program to Ancestry.Com. These programs are very similar to the Roots Magic programs, but with pictures added. For more information, please click here.
Legacy: You can use this to search Ancestry.Com, Family Search, and other sites to find information on your ancestors. There is a free version of this program available. With this site, you can also create DNA charts as well as plot where your ancestors lived. Please click here to download and buy this software.
Ancestral Quest: With this program, you can enter information, create pedigree charts, family group sheets and it also has links to search engines to make research easier. There is a free version of this software. Click here to install the software.
The Master Genealogist: Again, this site allows you to do what the other sites do. You can record information, make charts, upload photos, track sources, etc. To download this software, please click here.
DoroTree: This program is designed specifically for those of Jewish lineage. It is available in multiple languages, and includes things specific to Jewish heritage. These include records from the Holocaust, Yahrzeit reports as well as countless other resources. Please go to dorotree.com for more information.
GenBox Family History: Once again, similar to the sites listed above. This one has a free trial available, but ultimately you must buy the program to continue to use it. This allows you to make many different kinds of charts, pedigree reports, media reports, sources reports, correspondence logs, and many other benefits. WinFamily: This also has a 'demo' time period that lasts 21 days before you have to buy the program. You can enter data, change the layout, manage charts and many more. Please click here for more information.
FamTree: This site has a unique 'favorites' feature that allows you to pick specific individuals in your family line and pay special attention to them. There is a free download for this software. Family Historian: This site also allows you do to a free trial before having to commit and buy the software. It allows you to upload pictures and data person by person. The layout can be in the standard pedigree chart or tree format, as well as simply pulling up one ancestor to look at. For more information, please go to this website.
PAF (Personal Ancestral File): This is a free program that allows you to collect, record, organize and share your family history work for windows. Versions of this are available in multiple languages. Click here to download and find more websites sponsored by Family Search and the LDS church.
